Julian is a charming little town near the Pacific Crest Trail. Mikey and I visited a few years ago loved the cider, pies, and locals almost as much as we love each other. 

Once you are in town, things are pretty walkable (it's very small!) If you plan to explore some neighboring towns or hike Potato Chip Rock, you should plan on renting or coordinating to car pool as the uber situation is probably not super reliable.
